We noticed a warping sound with our unit, but this only occurred using the USB connection, not via analog. You can use them either with their wired USB cable or analog cable. These over-ears offer some customization features, like programmable RGB lighting along their ear cups and a parametric EQ with presets when connected via PC. If you're looking to avoid latency issues or want a better audio quality experience, the best headset under $100 with a wired design we've tested is the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3. Fortunately, you can adjust the sound with an EQ and presets in their companion software. Their warm sound profile adds boom to your audio, which can help add intensity to sound effects, but muddies instruments and vocals. Still, they last about 19 hours continuously to get you through a few long gaming sessions. They don't support a wired connection either, so you don't have the option of plugging the cable into an aux port for more versatility or to eliminate latency. However, they won't work with PlayStation consoles or PCs. They also support Bluetooth, meaning you can stream audio from your phone and console simultaneously. Many wireless headsets, like the Logitech G535 LIGHTSPEED Wireless, won't work with Xbox consoles because they don't support its proprietary wireless technology. While they lack low-bass, they have a bit of extra boom and warmth to their sound to help bring out sound effects like footsteps in gameplay. They also have a fairly balanced sound profile out of the box. While your voice lacks body, it sounds clear to whoever you're talking to. However, while you can use them wirelessly with PCs or PlayStation consoles, they're incompatible with Xbox consoles, limiting their versatility. They also last over 35 hours continuously and have an auto-off timer to help conserve battery life when not in use. And Google only just started selling its own Cardboard sets - it's put most of its efforts toward a set of best practices that manufacturers can follow to get an official "Works with Google Cardboard" stamp of approval. Most people refer to this now as "Google Cardboard," but the idea was around for years before Google branded it. This series was followed by a somewhat different series called Wacky Ads in 1969, featuring parodies and roughs by Jay Lynch and Kim Deitch, with finished paintings by Tom Sutton. In all, 14 cards were pulled from the series. "Moron Salt" was pulled later and replaced by "Jolly Mean Giant", which was also pulled soon after that. Two of the cards – "Cracked Animals" and "Ratz Crackers" – were pulled from production after the initial run. This series featured parodies created by Art Spiegelman and primarily painted by Norm Saunders. The very first Wacky Packages series was produced in 1967 and featured 44 die-cut cards that were made to be punched out, licked on the back and stuck on surfaces. Relying on the talents of such cartoonists and comics artists as Kim Deitch, George Evans, Drew Friedman, Bill Griffith, Jay Lynch, Norman Saunders, Art Spiegelman, Bhob Stewart and Tom Sutton, the cards spoofed well-known brands and packaging. We used to offer a free demo version of Highland, but it confused users more than it helped. While it’s not a huge moneymaker, 1 it serves a crucial need for screenwriters. My company created Highland because I needed it. It’s not something Highland is going to be able to fix. It’s because of the odd PDF-building code Fade In uses. PDFs created by Fade In don’t convert well. However, many screenwriters report success running PDFs through optical character recognition software like Prizmo 2 first. You may come across these kinds of PDFs when dealing with scanned paper scripts. If a PDF is really just a stack of images, there’s no text to suck out. From there, you can edit it right there in Highland, or export it to Final Draft.Ĭan Highland convert every PDF to Final Draft? No. Highland sucks out the text and does all the reformating. It’s actually a full-on screenwriting app, but its ability to melt down PDFs was its original claim to fame, and is still unrivaled. Highland is a paid app in the Mac App Store. Hell, if you have a mortal enemy who has a Mac, it’s worth kissing up to him for the five minutes this will take. If you have a Mac, or a friend who has a Mac, this is your best choice. So while it’s generally an improvement over copy-and-paste, you’d still need to spend quite a bit of time getting a useful script out of this workflow Use Highland I had similar results with all the PDFs I tried. The script also swelled from 114 to 343 pages. Elements were more likely to be recognized correctly, but line breaks and spacing glitches were daunting. In my testing, it’s only a little better than copy-and-paste. Here’s a screencast to show you this workflow: ![]() If you paste it into Final Draft, you’ll end up with a mess that will take quite a bit of work (and time) to sort out. Most PDFs these days have selectable text, so there’s a good chance you’ll be able to copy the text out. In Acrobat or Preview, you can select the text. You see the text, but it’s really an image. Some PDFs are essentially photos of pages. But in these cases, I think you’re better off putting the old script aside and starting at page one. The only scenario in which I can envision retyping a script is if it’s so bad you really do want to rewrite it scene by scene. Spellcheck will catch some typos, but words will get omitted. If you pay someone to do it, it’s expensive. This is the worst option, but back in the days of paper scripts, it was the only option. You can also use the web based Amazon Drive interface for uploading, and there’s an app for your phone you can install that allows you to backup your cell phone photos (similar to Google Photos). If you aren’t the most organized person, you can still reorganize everything using the Amazon Drive web interface once all your files are backed up (more on that in a bit). The best way to use Amazon Photos for backups is to install the desktop app and have a well organized structure on your hard drive before you start backing everything up. So how does it all work? Read on… Using Amazon Photos for Backups Despite those hangups, I’m still happy with the software’s capability. To add to the confusion, as of this writing (June, 2020) when you install the software on your computer, the icon on your desktop is called “Amazon Backup.” Literally nowhere else is the software ever referred to as “Amazon Backup.” That’s not confusing at all, Amazon. The other one is the “ Amazon Drive” web interface, which lets you see all of your images in an organized folder structure. I won’t be discussing its use in this article. One is the “ Amazon Photos” web interface, which is basically useless if all you are interested in is backups. Not only that, but there are two different web interfaces for viewing your photos. “Amazon Photos” backs everything up to your “Amazon Drive” so it can get confusing. And if you were on the fence about going with Amazon Prime, this might be a good reason to go ahead and sign up for it.Īlso worth noting before I go any further, throughout this article I reference “Amazon Photos” and “Amazon Drive” – in this instance, they are essentially the same thing. If you are a Prime member, it’s a no-brainer to use the service. You can upload entire folders, keeping their folder structure intact. I’ve already uploaded gigs of files to the service, including a 2.3 GB layered PSD file (which means it also handles files that are over 2 GB). If you are wondering if Amazon’s service will allow you to back up huge PSD files or other formats like DNG, rest assured, it does. It’s called Amazon Photos/Amazon Drive, and it’s included with an Amazon Prime membership. What if there was a place to back up all of those photo online, and it had unlimited storage capability? Turns out, there is. At some point you are going to need to either buy more drive space or start backing up all those massive RAW files. Shooting in RAW format is the preferred method when it comes to taking photos, but as I’m sure you are well aware, these files eat up drive space quickly. If you are like me, you are in a constant battle to manage hard drive utilization. Also worth noting, in the screenshots you’ll see my wife’s name shown (Pam). This article covers how to set everything up so your files are automatically and reliably backed up. I’m happy to say that Amazon has addressed the bulk of the glaring issues that the service had in the past and now provides users with a solid system once you get everything set up to your liking. I recently revisited the Amazon Photos service after bailing on it out of frustration a few years ago. Amazon Photos/Amazon Drive finally ups its game and gives users a reliable backup system with unlimited photo storage capacity. ![]() |
